the basic guidelines i created so far for the new player HB's
any suggestions help advice greatly appreciated
all are free to use any or all they like
1. OBJECTIVES and COMMANDS
No LOC or VP system is used (no attacking or targeting of the LOC building)
A building village or town
A hill
A bridge or crossing
A wood
A position
Create a delaying action
Flank
Defend
Hold
Pursue
Attack
capture
charge
penetrate
take possession
drive back
cover
place in reserve
Reinforcements times are listed in the pre-game menu or within the Historical Battles mini map (sometimes very hard to read and unclear) its advisable to note them down prior to the game starting
With the objective of a battle being the elimination of the enemy as a viable force and destroying the opposition or making them retire
2. SQUARE and LINE
The line-column-square (LCS) rule applies

If a unit is deployed in a line, it should be ordered to form a completely-formed immobile column and only then to form square
The Line of fire formation for is a minimum of 3 ranks deep other than for the British who can form a line of fire formation 2 ranks deep
3. BUILDINGS
Can be occupied by a single unit only
It is also advised to assault a building occupied by the enemy by sending a single unit in as well
1 unit in a building 2 units to attack max a building when taken 1 of the units must be removed
4. RUNNING and CHARGING
Infantry cannot run
Infantry can charge but you must move to as close to the unit as possible by walking and then hit the charge button only
Skirmishers and light infantry can run
Foot artillery cannot run
Foot Artillery gunners can run when leaving guns in melee
Horse artillery can run
Horse Artillery gunners can run when leaving guns in melee
Cavalry all can run
No charging through friendly units and players should avoid charging or moving through the ranks of friendly non routing infantry units
Charging or moving through friendly routed infantry is not allowed
Charging on the rear or flank of an enemy unit in melee is allowed but not from the front
5. ARTILLERY
No artillery auto fire - clear line of sight manual targeting and fire only
No firing at unlimbered or unlimbering artillery
You cannot fire or target moving artillery
No embedding of your infantry with your artillery; Artillery need to be deployed between units only; Unlimbered firing artillery cannot be intermixed with static infantry
6. GENERALS
No firing or deliberate targeting of generals, each player must move his general at all times out of harms way to avoid attack by accident
No generals to be used for scouting if they are then they are free to be attacked
Not to be moved to support increase morale of units; unless part of that corps
7. CAVALRY
Cannot move through your own units especially when in square or charge units through your own units while in melee
Can dismount and fight on foot
9. MOVEMENT
If a player wishes to remain as close to the historical accuracy as possible, he should try moving units by group they historically formed under their commander. Bringing battalions of different corps or divisions in battle side by side should be avoided when possible.
10. WOODS (that are large and dense)
Cavalry cannot charge (so no hitting the charge button) in woods and walk only
Heavy cavalry (including dragoons) cannot enter woods
Foot artillery cannot enter woods
Horse artillery cannot enter woods
Infantry cannot form square formation in woods
11. COMMUNICATION
Voice chat can be used but 1 channel for all use only

All commands or orders being typed during the game within the team text chat box ( recommended in CAPITALS and caps lock on)
Pre-battle communication discussion and planning is allowed
All planned orders must be written down prior to the game starting
12. Point System in use
We use a penalty point or demerit point system within each Battle
Cumulative demerits, or points given to players for guidelines offenses will result in disqualification
Points will either be added or subtracted, at the discretion of the Battle CnC
A major offense may lead to instant disqualification
More than the 3 maximum allowed points per player in a Battle being issued will also mean disqualification
Points are typically applied after guidelines offenses are committed
You must not fight too often with one enemy, or you will teach him all your art of war
